As the topic suggests I would like to know what a decent price for selling space for ads on a website would be. Any ideas?

It depends on the site's traffic.
Yahoo sells its space for Millions of dollars but some small site wont be even able to get $50 per month.

You've got to have an active enough site for people to want to put their ads on, but you also dont want to over charge them

If they are stupid enough to over pay let them its more money for you :P

As Terminator said, it depends on your traffic.
May I suggest, however, that instead of just selling space, why don't you sell ad impressions or click-throughs? They can be more profitable in the long run, especially if your site becomes busy.

but to us with private sites. what if we dont have 100+ views per week? or maybe i'm missing the point of even having ads without a commercial purpose. yeah, i think thats it.

With just 100 page views per second, i dun think anyone will be inetersted in buying your adspace.

Why not just do the adsense thing, won't they take anybody, or do you have to have enough pageviews?

It took them close to a week to accept my application.
The income really varies... I've made less than 10 cents on a day with several clicks, and over 50 cents on a day with only one click. It depends on whether the clicks are "valid" (by their standards, of course), the value of the keyword/ad, if the visitor clicks on anymore links on the site after getting there via the ad... and probably some other hidden factors...

Well, I think more content would definitely help your chances a lot... and even if you do get accepted, you won't get too many ads delivered the way your site is right now; they look for keywords in the text, but they can't really search flash animations for keywords :P
So yah, some more content, especially static content, would help out a lot :)

You can learn about adsense from http://hackadsense.info/ Its our own Creator's site.
Also adsense won't accept your request if you give them your subdomain at HM or for that matter any subdomain. You better take a .tk account and then point it to your subdomain.
Thank you.
Also, the pay rate varies. It depends on the ad your visitor clicks. And google does not say how much each ad pay. But ofcourse one thing can be surely be stated. The ads shown are in order of pay rate. That is, on our own HM the ad on top will pay more than the second ad and so on. This is because google charges adwords campaigner for the position.
One more thing, high paying ads are ofcourse from the field of high competition. I will suggest you one way to check competition among adwords campaigners. Just go to google and search for the key word to check for competition. And look for how many ads shows up on right side. In some cases its just two or three and in some cases the ads can even be seen on third resul page. Obviously the latter keyword pays more.
Hope that helped.

I dunno, I applied with my subdomain and they accepted me... :P
That was about a month ago though so they might have changed their policies since then... but I haven't had any trouble from them yet and registration was quite smooth and uneventful :)

lol thx... i hope they aren't expecting anything too stellar from my site cuz as of yet, that hasn't happened yet... :P
.tk is free but I think there's ads (although when I had .tk I had the option of disabling the ads)

:P
My game has already started alpha/beta testing (it started testing about a month ago)... I just never updated the main page to provide a convenient link to it; sorry :P
The link to access the game can be found on the left side (Seeds of Empires... you can see a whole list of other games that I'm working on :P but the first one, SoE, is the only one that is half-playable right now :P)
Normal registration is still not open; if you'd like to help me out and sign up with a testing acct, please PM me. Thanks! :)
