in case this hasn't been discussed yet. head over to www.mydomain.com or www.namesecure.com to register a .info domain name. registration is free for a limited time and effectively yours for one year. after that (as usual), there's a renewal yearly renewal fee.

both sites would need your credit card numbers though but wouldn't be charged for anything (purely for verification).

in fact, i've registered and currently a proud owner of a .info domain =)

btw, i'm in no way connected to mydomain.com or namesecure.com. just found out about the two during my lunch break and endless search for freebies =)

Thanks for the info!

I was searching for the same last day. But could not find the site.

Thankyou.

Lol, info, good one. I haven't heard of .info before, but it seems cool. The only drawback I have to it is that .info sounds kinda gay. I think dyndns.org offers free subdomain type things, and I liked those better. Mine is currently disorderofsanity.kicks-ass.org Oh yeah, if anyone knows how, or if it is possible, to host that site here, please PM me or something. Thanks.

Well, all your new domains will be set to "Automatic Renew" next year.

Be known about it. I had to disable the auto renew feature. Otherwise all your money will be gone next year same day. :P

I think there should be a place on the internet where kids...15 and up...should be able to get a domain name without a stupid CC.....takes away so much potential......

oooo, sorry for not explaining. Domaindiscount24.com was recently(september) giving out free .info domains, thats how i got mine. They said they would not charge you, so Instead of puting in a phony credit-card number(hehe *evil*) I selected wire transfer, they gave me all the info and stuff. And I didn't do anything and they okayed everything (you know the "Whois") and the domain was activated!

Hoped it helped...

You've got to change the nameservers to HM's. Ask for an admin to help.

Thanks Loser..
Anyway, can an admin tell me what should the nameserver be ?

Loser

If you already applied to the free hosting, the nameservers should come within the PM. At least they did for me.

hi.. after putting the name server to the one i got in the PM from the admin.. what should i do next ?

Loser

It takes at least 48 hours for the nameserver to change, so I think you don't need to do anything else.

errr.. have done that like 3 days ago and still nothing.. the domain name is www.i342.info | Just cant seem to make it point to my current website at 342.hostmatrix.org

Then you should probably PM an admin - I can't help you with this problem...

But one of registeration process is to request for your detailed information. After one (free) year, if you forget to cancel the contract with domain provider, they will automatically charge money in your credit card. Furthermore, they will sell your information (homeaddress, fone number, email, credit card info to different companies for advertising traps. In life, nothing for free!

I know a site where you can get it without a credit card, I just didn't do it because of the personal info they ask for. I wouldn't care if it was private, but any private information you register a domain with is completely public for anyone to see. It's so unsafe, I don't know why it's like that, only the domain register should need to know, not the whole world.

One of those do offer to hide your info, at a crappy $9 a year. There goes the "free" part.
