Which do you use?

DREAMWEAVER!

But I really like to code my own things... but Dreamweaver leaves me with less sloppy code... and it's usually optimized :D

Frontpage works for beginners... but isn't worth the huge bulky code...

i'm a newbie website designer and was first introduced to dreamweaver so i'm sticking with it. although i must say, i like frontpage's text formatting better than dreamweaver's. so i use both whenever it suits me.

now i'm trying to figure out CSS and CSSP

Hate them both. I stick with good old fashioned note pad. :)

Hmmm...Its nice to know there are still the conservative types who uses NOTEPAD! Cool! For me, I use frontpage because of its easier Inline Frame insertion..and it looks pretty much like other Microsoft Office products...I dont know, maybe I just use too much MS products...

Neither.

I use Crimson Editor (http://www.crimsoneditor.com/).

It's not really "roughing it" like notepad is, but trying to write a 1k+ line admin page, and being told you have a parse error on line 776 is kind of a pain in the ass on notepad.

Anyways, it's a really good program, and is freeware, if anyone is interested.

Whoops I voted for Front Page. I meant DreamWeaver. Because Dreamweaver has better PHP support.

DreamWeaver but i like to code my own stuff too.

mahangee
10-14-2004, 04:15 PM
Yeah I code I write my own code. I just use Dreamweaver to preview, and JavaScript (ohh and PHP Syntax highlighting). Thats it.

I use Dreamweaver for the most part. I never used frontpage so I have had it for years.

I use dreamweaver...but I like to do the code in it, screw doing the design portion. Just straight up code. I also like how it color codes things...then I can just preview my site right there.

I use Dreamweaver, it is a lot more customizable. Front Page is also good but it is more for creating sites fast.

10-15-2004, 05:27 PM
Ohhh I also use imageready when I want to create a really complicated table.

I use fireworks in combination with dreamweaver.

Thats the cool way to create stunning sites. The problem is i have no artistic sense.

mahangee
10-15-2004, 06:23 PM
LOL yeah I have a contemporary artistic sense. Plain, neat and simple. Normal is mine.

I don't like frontpage much. Dreamweaver is much better.

mahangee
10-16-2004, 08:10 AM
Yeah FrontPage is awful.

Matrix Kid
10-16-2004, 05:40 PM
Yeah Front Page isn't as customizeable and it has that stupid auto correct feature that messes up your Html if you do it by hand.

mahangee
10-16-2004, 07:36 PM
We should start an anti Front Page thread.

mahangee
10-19-2004, 03:57 PM
I dont understand why anyone would want to use front page in the first place. Because why settle for a crap option.

I use neither at the moment because i don't have enough money.
But i would rather save up for dreamweaver, i have used both a bit, not for anything great though.
Right now, Notepad suits me fine

Dont use Front Page extensions or Dreamweaver ones. Just use the standard ones.

I use frontpage alot to edit my php files because it's quick and frontpage actually doesn't throw any crap in a php file. But I agree with everyone else that you really can't beat Dreamweaver.

Frontpage was built with the user in mind having no html expierence and wanting to do a basic site.

Anything else beyond that and Dreamweaver is your best bet. Of course knowing and understanding the code is always the best route to go.

Dreamweaver of course!!!!!!
however, allow me to suggest note pad instead ;) hehe
in fact i use text edit (i'm a mac user, it's just like the notepad in PC) to code most of the time. i just find it easier. but sometimes, i'd use dreamweaver when i want to do bulk changes for the whole site, or when i want to 'find and replace'.

oh, and btw, why do you have to use frontpage for ftp??? use fetch/interarchy/cuteftp,etc instead! it's more convenient to use them

Dreamweaver has a built in FTP tool which is useful, because it automatically detects which files have been changed or added so you don't have to go through the whole list yourself.

I used Dreamweaver first, and I still use it because its a great program. I've never really used FrontPage much, but I've found it generates a lot of excess coding and useless things which can clog up your page.

Dreamweaver All the Way, Althought I don't Know Front Pages Features, You can Use Dreamweaver with just the Slightest big of Knowledge about HTML and Get a Great Professional Site. I recommend it to Anyone from the less expirenced to the Most Expirenced. The best thing i like it for is the Preview. (i think frontpage has one too) Instead of having to upload your page every dang time you can just Preview it off your saved file. It Saves time, Energy, Bandwidth, Money, Sleep..... Just about everything :P

I straight up learned by using dreamweaver. so i stuck withit. The only thing that i have problems with is setting up a testing server for PHP to test locally before uploading. Any Ideas?

No brainer: Dreamweaver. Plus, I've found Frontpage to be sketchy with other browsers - even Mac IE!

I'm buying dream weaver next week , my teacher taught me how to use it in school so I think Dream weaver is da best for editing webpages.

I definitely prefer Dreamweaver. Frontpage to me is for people who are just wanting to make relatively simple websites and who are familiar with other Microsoft products. I've used Frontpage a little, and from what I remember, it doesn't have all the database features in it like Dreamweaver does.

Dreamweaver. 2004 version, really. Upgrading from Frontpage, Dreamweaver is so much easier and faster. Does anyone here use Firefox? Dreamweaver and firefox go so well with each other, especially if you are trying really hard to create standards-compliant pages!

Firefox is very standards compiant. Oh! i forgot. i downloaded and installed this program by chris pederick. works in firefox/mozilla, and allows you to edit the css, add your own stylesheet to a site, disable imagesjavascirpt... a lot of useful tools if you are going to accessiblilty. you can get the link here. (http://www.chrispederick.com/work/firefox/webdeveloper/)

Or maybe I'm just too happy about upgrading from a really faulty browser...

IE isn't faulty. It's a lot more forgiving with non-perfect coding and is about as secure as Firefox is if you have SP2 installed and keep up with the Windows updates.

I just plain hate Microsoft. FrontPage 2000 sucked, and comparatively, Dreamweaver is better. Now I aint sure abt Frtpage 2003 or so, cause i heard that its totally radical and all.

I am using Frontpage for the moment, but want to learn how to use dreamweaver. I started off using netscape composer, FP is better than that I think but I am just a beginner at the moment. Tried using dreamweaver trial version and it looked very cool.

like i've said before, I like Dreamweaver more. This time, I'll say that i've mastered it to a point that Frontpage is obsolete to me now.
