WEll, I want to tell you about one great site DDboards, where you can earn a free top-level domain name. It's not very-very easy, but it's possible :)
First thing I want to say - this is NOT scam. The good friend of mine has already got two domains there, howiearned.com and psexam.com . It usually takes 20-25 days to earn 3000 points that you need for .com, .net or .org domain. There are even cheaper domains, like .info, .us and others (currently I have 1300 points or something around).
All you need is to post on their forums, that's easy - these forums are great place for chatting (free domains attract a lot of users).
So visit the forums, post and earn your domains :) I would be glad if you'd post my nick as the referral. :P

will they provide the disk space also?.
currently, I am looking for a free hosting service like hostmatrix. If TLD is available as a free service, would be best. Right now I have no income to pay bills, but would like setup a site to offer my services at free of cost. do you aware of any such sites ?

I don't think that there is any service that offers free hosting and free domains, you'll be hard pressed to find one.

It would be possible for you to get the domain at one place and then the hosting somewhere else. This is basically what i do because I have hosting at hostmatrix but I then paid for the domain and then you can set the domains DNS to link to your hosting. I am sure that you would be able to do the same thing with a free domain.
