I'm a bit bored tonight, and the forums are a bit inactive, so I thought I'd start off a discussion.
FireFox has always claimed to be a faster and more secure. With extra features such as skinning and extensions, a lot of people have figured it to be the way to go-- and the next generation browser. But is it really safe? As demonstrated here (http://forums.hostmatrix.org/showthread.php?t=2341), FF might not be as secure as it seems... and it's not as bug-free as most would think. As people move to FireFox, will hackers and phishers aim their work towards those users? Is FireFox really what it seems to be?
Internet Explorer has long been the head honcho. 90.3% of internet users use IE, or something that expands it (E.g. AvantBrowser, Maxthon, etc.). Because of this, many hackers have exploited things such as ActiveX controls to get into the users' computers. After all, they have a 90.3% chance of them getting it. IE has always been Microsoft's biggest flaw. With newer, more advanced browsers coming out, will the internet population stay with their default browser? The rumor is that in the next release of Windows (Longhorn), Internet Explorer and Windows will get a divorce. Will everyone go for other browsers?
A very interesting report (http://www.howtocreate.co.uk/browserSpeed.html) has been written about the speeds of the browsers. Will the browser wars come down to this? Will Opera come out of the blue and take over the internet market?
What do you think?
