Best strategy game you ever played... ?

X-Com UFO defense. It's not just the best strategy game I've played, it's the best strategy game. ;) But don't take my opinion, try it yourself (http://www.the-underdogs.org/game.php?gameid=4966)!!!

Other than that, Master of Orion and, since you seem to consider RTS games to be strategy (yes yes, I know that's what the S stands for, but that doesn't mean a thing), then Starcraft takes the trophy there for me.

I'd say the Command and Conquer series were my favorite of all time. The FPS version was horrible but all the originals were great.

I loved Medieval: Total War, especially the campaign map. I used to get addicted for hours, and the satisfaction you get from trouncing opponents in battle is huge. I would recommend it as the best strategy game I have played, although I need to try Rome: TW.

X-COM. Massivley entertaining, i loved it when the aliens attacked, or when we discovered an alien base haha :D

See, generally when I'm asking for a new game to play...I expect to hear about games I haven't heard of before...or thought about. So you shouldn't expect the person you're replying to to know what you're talking about simply because it seems obvious to you.

I mean, Castle Siege? . . . You never know. So I have to guess Counter-Strike. But, I mean, is that actually strategy?

What about La Pucelle Tactics and Disgaea?

RealmRPGer, take a chill pill :p Ok enough bad cliches from me for the moment... If someone needs more clarification, just PM the person or ask in another post.

My favorite strategy was Heroes of Might & Magic 2 (not 3 though that was fun too). Sure, it averages at 'fun' when on easy no matter the map you play, but the AI on hard is near impossible, not to mention the fun of multiplayer games and of dowloading new maps that are also impossible to beat. It's turn-based, which I prefer in general for strategy.

But I have to say... I haven't played nearly as much strategy as I want. RPGs always win hands dawn when I eye the video and computer games at the store.

You know, you can't beat the originals. Chess is a game of strategy that takes real patience and practice (and brains...why I always lose). The graphics might be improved I suppose :rolleyes: ...but, an oldie-but-goody it remains.

I never played 2, but at one point I was addicted to playing 3 hotseat. Great fun.

I bought 4 recently, and that doesn't live up to 3, I wouldn't recommend buying it. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new developers are intending to do with 5.

I guess the original Age of Empires(AoE) from Ensemble followed by the whole set namely Age of Kings(AoK) and Age of Mythology(AoM) are one of the best strategy games ever :) :) . They have a superior AI and spectacular graphics. AoM ofcourse beats all three with its amazing themes and awsome music..
