View Full Version : Support and PMs

In the last 5 days I have received about 200 PMs. As many of you know I will try to help when I can but my time is limited, and I cannot guarantee a quick reply.

The best place to ask for support is in these here forums, there are plenty of people here more knowledgable than I on many a package. I do not pretend to know the ins and outs of every PHP package that you can install, if I did I'd be very rich :) so please use the forums that is why they are here.

If you have posted a message or question in a forum and nobody has answered in a couple of hours, please do not complain at me expecting an immediate answer. I do not read every single thread, I'm pleased to say there are too many. If I read a thread and feel I can add to it and have the time I will always post.

For HM to work we do rely on members helping each other, so if somebody does help you in some way or other, try and return the favor by helping another member when the opportunity arises.

Thanks everyone for being a member of HM

What questions do you have, Zelda? Ask them in the forums and people will be willing to help you.. just don't expect an answer IMMEDIATELY.. we all have lives, just remember that.

:P I'll second that. Zelda, you don't need to pm me when i'm offline to tell me to reply to a thread :P Don't worry i'm not mad, just wait though, next time.

I never started this thread because of one person, I receive a lot of messages and most would be solved faster in the forums.

Thanks Zelda for contributing, but it wasn't (just) you that got me to start this thread.

So far today (thats 67 minutes for me) I have 25 PMs, 20 of which the answer is already here or easily answerable.

Another thing I will say if you ask me a question in all CAPS, I (as well as many others) class that as shouting, which will not get the best of responses from me.

I'm not here to moan just saying it as I see it, we have a great community going on here lets make the most of it.

That is a somewhat silly idea when this whole ENTIRE forum is a support team. We are all here to help one another. Why would we want to "hide" questions? Someone may have that same question, so there would be no reason to hide the answer and create more work for us. The forums are working great: people just need to realize that. There is no need for another "special" rank in the forums. It caused problems with the agency. I say we keep it the way it is.. people just need to be patient with other users.

you know, the mods should goto Savefile support forums and look at them. They have mods and teams for everything. Don't critic me. I am just suggesting how to make it better. Your choice mods

Possibly, but maybe not. Like EnderX said, this whole forum is about helping one another. I don't see what questions couldn't be spoken aloud, it's not like we have confidential data floating around our support forum.

EnderX wasn't really discriminating anyone.
I want to make two facts made to you:
A: We don't need a support team.
B: He is not an older member, nor is does he know any more than anyone here, nor does anyone else.

So, that post doesn't make much sense to me. If you were here, you would know that once upon a time HM had a little thing called an "Agency", (I was part of it), and it was a total disaster, and practically nothing was accomplished accept for arguements, and resignations. And that's not good.

You know, SaveFile != HostMatrix. They can do anything they want, and that's really good for them. HostMatrix is a learning community, and by members helping eachother to solve problems, people learn. Quickly. Why have teams for everything if everyone could help? If you'd really like, we could rename the members group to the Support Group.. Because if you haven't noticed already, a lot of people are willing to help out around here. So I think our choice at the moment will be to keep things how they are, because so far, everything has been working out so "delightfully".

As for PM's, I think that if eveyone posted, problems could be solved a lot faster and a lot more efficiently. If everyone around here read the pinned topics in the announcement forum, they would see this topic:
http://www.hostmatrix.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=4
Bullet number 2 in that post clearly states that support shouldn't be asked through PM nor email. Obviously this problem has occured before. I think we've been taking this rule a little too loosely lately, and maybe we should start ignoring support PM's.

I was not discriminative in any way. I simply voiced my opinion about his idea, just as he voiced his very own. I have no rank or power here. I make no decisions. I was simply voicing my opinion.

Seniority here really does not mean anything. I have been here longer than Sage Tech.. does that mean that I can critique him, but he cannot critique me? People are equal here reguardless of their member numbers.

I was simply saying I did not like the idea. People will do that, you know.. DISAGREE with you?.. Get used to it. Why do you need a limited support team to, I'm guessing, around 30 when we already have a support team of 3,814 (as of 10:30 am EST, Feb 26). Why limit our abilities to handle problems?

I think you need to look at what I really said instead of how you interpreted it. You misconstrued what I was saying. I had no biased feelings against alphonse. I was simply stating my own opinion and suggestion, just as he was.

lets forget about those unpleasant things, lets join hands together and help make hm a better place~!

i have an idea, maybe expending the FAQ section will be a good idea as well, so people who needs help can just go there and search for related articles. just like in microsoft.. (lol they are pro, so i dont expect that to happen in the future here) :D
