I think that peoples best bet is Adsense. It's generally good as long as you get tons of hits and people actually click on the links. Since the price per click goes up when your average hit count goes up, click prices vary.
It's somewhat difficult if the ads on your site arn't going to be used by users because they already have it... but that's something you have to live with.
You should also look for businesses that have affiliate programs. For example, on my site, I had an affiliate program with a custom Tshirt company since many times at DDR Tournaments, tshirts are given away. I only had one person buy about 10 shirts... but I got about $50 for it which was poored right back into the site to get more people to come.
I highly suggest both methods for getting revenue for a website... but are extremely simple to obtain and will generate a decent amount of cash if the ads are related.

Thankyou for your comments. Yup, I feel google adsense is best revenue sharing program.
Advantage is that its less intrusive towards users, while can be placed best with the background of your site.
Two Tier advantage.
I love google adsnese!

See those ads at the top of the forums and on the right side... those are google adsense ads. They pay you per click and you usually get a little more if you actually click on another link on the site that comes up after a few seconds.
Go to google.com and one of those links on the bottom underneth the text box will have info about it.

Firefox is the best...
and about the paying...
They pay you per click... it's usually ~$.25 a click and can be more then $5/click depending on your traffic.
The more unique hits you have a day, the more you get per click.
They send you a paycheck after you get $100 or at the end of the year (not sure if it's calender or fiscal year)
I usually have them on the top of my site... but something happened to it and I need to readd them... but that won't be for a while... and I might not even add them now that I have a free host :D

Firefox is far supperior over any other browser. It actually displays pages correctly, it has tabs, LOADS of extensions and themes. It doesn't use as many resources as IE, and doesn't make your CPU heat up like IE.

Well, do you need help with it? It also has a great built-in popup blocker, and doesn't have 1,000 security holes....even after SP2.

Don't make posts like that... that can get the owner in trouble... but it is a good idea to click on the ads to bring in some revenue... and many of them are related to whatever is being posted :D

By big site I mean 629 people have been on the site today. But I think they only got that for the first day. The rest would be lower.

err. just a question tho' about the payment: google sends you the check directly to your doorstep? No account transfers...etc..? Hmmm.. For a site like this (w/ this traffic) can you just give me an idea how much money can a webmaster make? just a rough range..pls. Maybe Creator can answer this...

Creator is not in a position to answer this i think. He lost a google adsense account coz some one (a competitor which serves the same service) did violent fraudelent clicks.
Any way, i will give you a rough idea. The revenue depends on the CTR (click through rate, which is the ratio of number of clicks to number of times the ad is shown.). A 2% - 3% CTR gives you the maximum. anything above 10% will alert google coz that will defenitely be fraud. Now the ads shown in adsense program is those sites which register in adwords program. There sites bid on how much they pay to google to show their ads and google pays us the percentage. How much a site pays them is hidden and we cannot in any way say which ad pays most. Some of them will fetch you .25 cents and there are instances where $25 per click was reported. So it depends. Also as said earlier by some one if the click gives the site advertised something valuable (a lead, or a purchase) then the revenue is increased (not sure of this info, but experts says so and google is very strict in keeping everything hidden.).
Google has so many ways to detect fraud, and just a reminder, don't ever think we can fool google. They have the best scientists on earth who research on internet. They have MITians and IITians. They know much more abt the net and its users than we do. Their algorithms are the best and those best algorithms are supported by the best human resources around.
Any way from my experience, i think a site with 100000 page impressions per month with a genuine userbase and targeted viewers, can earn around $500+ per month easily with out any fraud.
The greatest disadvantage of adsense being it cannot detect freindly fraud and hostile fraud, as happened to creator twice. But one thing can be done, we can be vigilant abt such hostile fraud clicks and can report to google. Then google wont credit our account for clicks from that IP and we wont be terminated.
Google rocks.

what do you mean by saying: "Any way from my experience, i think a site with 100000 page impressions per month with a genuine userbase and targeted viewers" ??
Is that the site statistic of hostmatrix?
what do you mean by "page impressions" clicks per page?
Terminator

Its not the stats for HM.
Its from my experience with other sites.
Also page impression means how many times that particular page is shown in browsers in whole. Or how many times that page is requested from the server.
