View Full Version : Reminder

Many of our new members here are spamming to a quite noticeable extent. For the new members' information, HM has very strict spam policies and guidelines. Please read: http://www.hostmatrix.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=2753 to understand the entire set of rules, including spam definitions.
Also remember that ALL members who respond to spam posts are considered spammers themselves (for encouraging spam). In the past, those who responded to spam have been punished and the enforcement of this rule will not subside anytime soon.
Important
Since this reminder is here, there will be NO grace warnings for members who signed up on or before Feb.21, 2005; all of the affected members will receive warning levels upon the first discovery of spam posts made by them.

Well, spamming isn't defined as the frequency of the appearance of your name :) If your name is all over the forum, but they're all quality posts, then that's absolutely fine. In fact, you'd be an exemplary member :)

I suggest either by editing the forum rules or re-linking it to the new topic so that more people will read it and it'll be much easier for everyone to read it...

I never knew the regulations were so serious. For example, the above post that the person just made shoudl count as spam (the quote should not count):

I think you need to relax the post size rule, but I agree with most of the rest of what you say.

Well, it's not what I say; this list of rules was "voted in" by HM members (do a search for the discussion threads; there are two very lengthy ones where we discussed this set of rules and got feedback from all interested members about these rules). Since you're new here; you don't know the history behind these rules. For a while the development and future of HM were jeopardized by rampaging spam. People stopped coming and we dropped in the various free host directories' rankings. We decided to introduce this set of rules to curb spam and until the recent surge in new memberships, spam had been well under control.
Read the rules very carefully; everything is there for a reason (we spent about two weeks discussing these). The above post is not spam because post count if off in this forum.
P.S. If we weren't serious about the regulations, then why do we have them at all?

You should add a closed and pinned forum on each catagory so that there is a copy of all the rules!
Im not sure what the problem is, and hope Im not out of line on this please let me know if I am(a mod or admin that is) I like this place because it is structured very well, but not so ridged theres no fun in it. You dont join any kind of group without knowing whats expected and whats not allowed. And this place is open to new ideas but not badgering about something you should have known before joining.
No one should join something in hopes whatever they want to do is acceptable or the rules can be changed without overwhelming support by its supporting members. I know if i need something or reply I try to explain what I want or comment in a way thats helpfull...There was this post about licking a camel that i responded to and shouldnt have, sorry. Theres reasons for rules and maybe we should ask the reason behind one we might not like to help us and maybe someone else with the same question.. B) anyway thats it, just my outlook on it.

For my regulations on my forum I made a quick, useful table.
If you can see it (Might need more bandwidth soon :() look here (http://www.rexyrex.hostmatrix.org/forum/index.php?act=boardrules).
(w00t site promotion) ;)

I am loving it! It's a great way to see what's acceptable and not. I wonder if creator or Sage can do that?

It's very, very easy.
No PHP involved, even though a simple script would do the job.
Just CSS and HTML Tables.
<center>Here is the rules table, showing what they are and how much we enforce them.</center><table class="rules" align="center"><tr><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Rule</center></b></td><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Lenient</center></b></td><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Mild</center></b></td><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Mean</center></b></td><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Very strict</center></b></td><td class="ruleborder"><b><center>Possible warn raise?</center></b></td></tr>The only reason their isn't any line breaks is becuase IBP likes to treat them like
. Sorry for the sloppy code, I didn't know what else to do.
[EDIT]: Dear god, thats more spam than anything else...edited. And thank you for the comments on that.

I still think you are doing well in terms of spam-prevention, you don't need to worry too much. Most posts are lengthy and informative here.

Sorry, I never realised that, in that case you need to make it clear in which forums post count is on and off. Is there any table for that?
P.S. If we weren't serious about the regulations, then why do we have them at all?
I don't think I said anything which this was a response to :S

Speaking of tables...I'd love to make one.
But then again I'm just a member.
Nothing compared to the godly moderators and administrators...
But if you want me to make one ... :)
I love to help. :D
There really is no need for a table. Read the Rules, the ToS, The User Agreement, and you will see all of this. It's not the moderators' fault if the new members don't read these rules when they sign up, so when the new members have a 30% warn level and wonder why, they shouldve read that rules thread.

I always thought it was 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% :P.
Unless the images and percent differ.

Often people don't have the time / patience to read the rules thread. And most of what is contained is the same as most other forums.
So why not condense the stuff that's unique to these forums into some easy visuals like tables?
For a small expenditure of time, you get:
1. Increased activity (people know things, and don't leave because of WL)
2. Less spamming (people know things, and don't spam)
If you're too lazy to read the rules/ToS, you don't deserve to have your stuff hosted by HM. You should read the rules/ToS for everything in life, or you're likely to be screwed over.

I was under the impression that the Admins wanted to increase activity. I'm just giving a method for that :). Also, I'm sure that many of the active members of this community haven't fully read all these documents, they may have only skimmed over them, and have missed something small.

Actually, you get a PM Warning before you get an actual warning. If you don't stop after the PM warning, you get 10%. Then you get accordingly.

but what if it's like what alphonse said...40% andf your hiosting account is suspended...but what if diff. mods warn that member by each 10% for the same reason...i'm confused

Warn logs are viewable by all mods; it is the mod's responsibility to check the log before giving out warn levels (reasons are included in warn logs).
There's also a staff forum for discussing various things and discussions about spammers pop up in there sometimes. And of course, if a user ever got warned by multiple mods for the same thing, he/she can always appeal and if the appeal is valid, the warn is removed forthwith.
