View Full Version : Windows More Secure than Linux
Research shows that a windows server is more secure than a similarly set up linux server. Click for article (http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002182315_security17.html)
i dont think HM, or anyone running apache has anything to worry about, unless we REALLY piss somebody off.. lol.. Im not sure how hard it would be to take advantage of these security issues, the article obviously doesnt say anything.. I think we're ok. I didnt post this to scare everyone, just to inform people who run their own webservers and cant make up their mind on what to run.

Hmmmm.... I'm sorry I'm just dumbfounded by that article. It may be the facts but I do not agree with them at all. I personally like Linux a lot more because it has a lot less virus issues. (and all that other junk)
how can you disagree with them, but consider them facts? windows owns, suck it up :P

I disagree. One test does not blow away all the other tests that have been done. This was the "basic" setup. If an administrator (aside from our very own) is stupid enough to use the BASIC setup for a network, he should be taken behind a barn an beaten. I'd go with Linux :D

It is rather odd this thread, here we all go and dis windows and then a thread like this comes up! I respect you geek, for making this thread about something that no-one will take any notice of because they do not believe you! I do bleive you because windows has been around longer than anything else 1985!

Yeah but do you know how Bill Gates started Windows? Well let's just say he stole the basic code from Mac and then he was going to try and sue Lindows for changing a letter in the name. BWAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm not saying one is better than the other. I'm saying they are aimed toward different uses.
Windows, although partially stolen, was groundbreaking. It is now on every manufactured computer that is sold by the 3 major manufacturing companies: Dell, Gateway, and E-Machines (I know there's more, but no one cares about them). Windows is user friendly. It's what my generation grew up with at school, it's what is commonly used in the work force, and it's what the majority uses at their homes. I even use it :P
Linux, on the other hand, is ideal because it is the exact opposite of Windows. Stuff doesn't come "customized" automatically. You have to recompile the kernal. This makes Linux much more flexable in whatever you need it to do. It is so much more versatile, not to mention the basic idea of it is FREE. You can find *cough*free*cough* support for Linux. Linux is for the true geek.
My friend geek, suprisingly, doesn't share the same interest in Linux as the other geeks. He won't even touch it ;)
I don't Windows or Linux bash... each has it's pros and cons. Personally, I think it's all a matter of preferance. No matter how many tests you run, how much you push them to the limits, people will always choose one over the other. Might as well not waste time trying to argue one into superiority.

My preference is MAC. I crew up with Windows to but I do not trust it at all. There are to many hotfixes and service packs, sercurity issues ......... blah, blah, blah.
I heard a rumor and I don't think anyone will ever know the truth but I heard that the US millitary gateways to the outside world are Mac's. Mac's have always been designed for networking together. Maybe thats why the security is so much high.

Windows is great for program compatability and gaming...but when you get online, be sure to hide behind a firewall (Or two).
Mac on the other hand is beyond secure and is very good for anything that it can do. So what I mean is that you can't do as much on a Mac as you can on a Windows gaming wize.
They pretty much balence out. Get Windows, Mac, and a Linux. Come on, think outside the bun.
