I think Sage Tech has selected a few members he knows can come up with good suggestions/opinions and can find any bugs. (not saying if he didnt select you, you wouldnt be able to do such things) From how the beta testing is going, it shouldn't be long until parts of it are released to the public. Sage may ask you to participate in another beta project he has going on, or may even ask you to participate in this one, i can't really say since im not an admin or mod. Just throwing in my 2 cents. :D

Well Geek is exactly right, ST thought that the members chose would provide good quality feedback. And most importantly honest feedback. This is all up to ST, if he wishes to include you than he can, but this would probaly be best discussed in a PM. :)
