all kinds of Bots!

recently, i found more and more bots in hostmatrix-googlebot used to be here for quite awhile now, but now, there's msnbot, askgeeves and yeah, maybe more bots.
what are they for anyway? i thought googlebot is just here because of the adsense advertisment.
but ask geeves? msnbot? what are they for? i am just curious

and now, i even found astalavista bot in my own forum./.. :blink:

I think it because they just searching through the site and stuff. You know, like not breaking rules and stuff.

No, actually they are "spiders". They search sites for updated content and follow links until they don't go any further. This is what they use to get you on the search engines and stuff.

Anyway I have always seen the askjeeves and msnbot around, is their a Yahoo! one? :?

Awhile ago I thought they were guests with their own names. :P

yeah, i thought of that too, i thought those "spiders" were hidden members! :P
anyway, it's actually a good thing to have all these spiders around here! :)
i hope more spiders will come and join our web!
i still dont quite understand how to get these spiders... i got mine accidentally on astalavista, but i forgot how i got it... :(

ok so one question. how does this site know whenever there is a bot here at the forums? and how does it make up its own name? like google bot and SLURP lol

I think it's due to that everyone, guest, bots, members, EVERYONE!! is recongnized, if you put invisible, the admins can see you. It's just that the bots are reconginzed with their ip address!

isnt the ads there to raise money. like if there is people coming to the site hte company will give the company that advertise it money in return for advertisin it. nd there is also ads from google that will bring more people to your site.

u are getting it the wrong way...
the 1st part is correct..
and the 2nd part... u display the google ads .. so the advertisers that pay google to display ads gets more visitors.. not your site..

and i even found alexa.com once.. in the forums..
its good that more and more spiders are coming... (might improve if we link to HM on our website.. and then submit our wen\bsite to the search engines..)

even my website.. got 8 different spiders in this month..
