Hey:

Just downloaded and installed this FREE office package ( origanlly from Sun Microsystems) and ported to open source.
So far so good. It opens up pretty much all the Microsoft Standards, ie: Word excel PPT files, ect, and even comes with a built in PDF writer!

Oh and BTW: It is completely free. No Microsoft bloatware here. For those of you looking for an alternative, might want to check this one out. It installed just fine ( 5 mins) on my XP Pro machine.
Anyone else using it?

Yep, OOo (The last o comes from .org in the short name) is a very good alternative. I used it on Windows, and now as I installed Ubuntu Linux, I've got no problems with writing with it...^_^

I use Open Office on Linux Red Hat 9. It is real good in the way it does everything Microsoft can do with good results. It makes me sad to think that some people are stuck on the Microsoft path and they just cant seam to get off. Id say to anyone now jump of that road and have a duel OS on your system and explorer the wild forest :D

I'm just amazed that openoffice is free! It loads up exactly like Star Office under Windows, and has pretty much all the same features! It is defenitely as good as Microsoft's stuff is, and the built in PDF is amazing!

www.openoffice.org if anyone is looking for it.

Well it seams the programmers are just as professional about there work as Microsoft is. If everyone didnt have such a tunnel vision then Microsoft wouldnt be doing so good. Go Open Source...! Free... Professional and open source :P

Yeah...I've been using this for a month or so now...I think that if more people with broadband internet connections knew about this, 3 things would most likely happen:

#1. Sourceforge.net(the host) would run out of bandwidth and hte server would crash

#2. Microsoft would lose a LOOOOOT of $

#3. Microsoft would find some frivolous reason to sue :P

That's how sad Microsoft is XD .

MS Office can't even export to PDF, can it? Wow, if it can't, then the free copy is better than the real thing

not many people go out and buy microsoft office, most people just pay for it included with the price of the computer, or get it as a "free" bonus add on. so, i dont think MS would lose that much business.. people know the name Microsoft, and they go with whats the norm.

OO.org is a great program, i've had it for quite some time. it's definately good for people who build there own computers.

i wouldnt agree..
openoffice is too much slow.. and i suppose its based on the java platform..
i tried using this and man.. i am sorry for that..
it loads up 2 to 3 times slower then MS ofice.. and working in that is also pretty slow.. and hogs down lots of resources..

OFFICE is good..
and no need to purchace oine..
ur computer sales person already pre ionstalls that!!
