View Full Version : Sempron vs Celeron? Opinions
Hey Guys:
I'm looking at building a few PC's, and I was wondering if there is really any difference between celeron's, and Sempron processors? Sempron is a little cheaper, and the PC's won't be used for much CPU processing, so I'm not too concerned that are are lower end. Any thoughts?
Thanks

I would go with the Sempron. They are much better than a Celeron. In fact, the Semprons are comparable to the Athlon CPU's of the same speed.
There's very little in the difference between the Sempron and Celeron. There both perform pretty much on a par. However, the Celeron does have a faster FSB but is handicapped without HyperThreading. The Sempron performs well in comparision with the Celeron and can be sourced cheaper than the Celeron. So it's really up to what you want to build...
I like semprons better simply because they dont perform any worse, but they are usually considerably cheaper. Then again that's about the same with all of the pentium vs amd products in my opinion. One day I may build a Pentium system but not until they can compare prices to AMD or have an extreme advantage of AMD, which they currently don't. Semprons also have a really nice overclocking ability if you ever want to try to experiment with that.
