Okay i've seen a lot of people request space and more bandwith, well a way to get that little extra is compress or host your images on another server.
-- Compressing images --
You want the file to be small but not lose quality, right?
Common formats:
.jpg .jpeg: Compressed, good quality, single frame
.gif: multiple frames (animation) Not so good for single frames ;)
.psd: Photoshop format, eat up space and bandwith like mad! :P
.png Good quality, generally small

You don't want your images to look bad though, but .jpeg generally looks good. :)

Hosting on another server, no this won't cost you money. :P This can be quite simple just edit the files to include the URL of the image.
Now you might ask were can I get my images hosted free? http://www.imageshack.us (1024 kb limit, unlimited BW)(not reccomended, slow servers)
http://www.storemypic.com (1024 kb limit, unlimited BW)
http://www.photobucket.com (250 kb max size, 1.5 GB BW, requres registration, 25 mb total)
http://www.imgestash.com (requres registration 5mb space 50 mb BW)
http://www.picrack.com (300 kb limit, unlimited BW)
Hopefully that will get you started. :)

This is just a tim to get every last byte of your space and bandwith, hope it helps. :)

I don't recomend hosting on ImageShack unless you register, cause the images are hard to remember their names, and they tend to disappear after a while.

Nice guide MCK.
This should help a lot of people

like most ppl, i also recommend jpeg for just single frame pictures...
btw i like photobucket but my friend suggests Picturetrail, a site that lets you store and share pictures (image sharing duh)... see if that's good
Link (http://www.picturetrail.com)
i wonder if you can make jpeg multi-frame images, i only use gif though...

No, you can't make jpegs multi-frames. Only gifs are multiframe.

Picture trail is ok, but you have to start paying for it eventually. I still like Imageshack, mostly because you have a thumbnail so it doesn't hog up all the space. Yea, Like ucb said, you should register an account because it would keep your pictures longer and the names are easier to remember. Photobucket is good too but if you have larger images like me, you want a larger file size upload.

I personally like using Store My Pic (http://storemypic.com) because you don't even signup or anything. You just upload, and they give your file a random name. It's good if you are just sharing a picture with someone, but if you are actually using it for your site or something use one of the other sites out there :)
