How do you promote your site?

Well, when the site is new, every webmaster will think to get as much traffic as possible in its first day of existence.

Me to did some adverts on the forums. I used the signature as hostmatrix in these forums.

What all other methods do you follow in this kinda situation.?

Well when I started my website (http://ddrtourney.com) I opened it with another site related to the topic. His was definatley gonna bring in a larger crowd, and I got free advertisements from him.

I then made sure I went to all the related websites on the internet, posted a bunch with my siggy in the name.

Also, when people would announce a tournament on another forum, I would add it to my list of tournies and announce that I added it, usually bringing in more people.

I get on average about 10 hits a day now... but have had over 1000 in a day and I've had about 57K hits since it opened 3 months ago. Pretty decent for a website that isn't very popular for participation. People mainly come to get information about DDR Tourneys

Nice banner. Like Creator said... the text is a little difficutl to read... but I love the matrix theme :D

I suggest you make it a little shorter... that or a little longer... but shorter would make it look a little better IMHO

How about overlapping the ONE STOP SOLUTION FOR over the bottom part of the word MATRIX. And then moving YOUR FREE PHP HOSTING NEEDS to be right alligned with the end of the image. I would try doing it... but I don't have the PSD file that you have and I don't want to butcher the image :P

Microdude, I forgot to say WHY I didn't like yours. They are too bland. It looks like a black bg and some green glowing text...that is all. They don't catch your eye. I'd do something more with that matrix background you've got already ;)

I've only just recently joined directories. I've noticed the number of visitors has increased since doing this but wonder if that will continue (I only joined the directories yesterday).

I always add my site to search engines (at least when the site is first established) but should I be doing that more often?

Adding your site to search engines is a quick and effective way to doing things, I really recommend doing it almost straight away, or add the keywords meta tag into your web page, most search engines including google read this.

I personally find that finding a specific community or forum that's related to your page genre and not madly posting it but maybe one post acknowledging it's presence is a good way to drag hits aswell. This works more for gaming sites but can work for software related sites aswell.

I find a good way to promote a site is by advertising on related forums. For example my friend made an N-Gage website and posted on N-Gage forums and he got over 10 000 hits.
