I found a site a few months ago where you could submit your URL, a description, and keywords, and it would submit them to the most popular search engines (Google, Yahoo!, MSN, etc.). Does anyone know a site that does this?
On a similar note, how exactly is SEO performed? Thanks.

I'm a bit skeptic about this site. It asks for my email and wants me to subscribe to their newsletters. Are you sure this works?

I don't remember it being required to give them your email address. Just uncheck all the newsletter boxes and give a fake or alternate email address. Simple as that.

Don't worry about it; I've used this service before and they don't spam you. If you make sure that all of the newsletter checkboxes are unchecked, you can use your real email address. The only emails you receive from them are confirmation messages sent by some of the search engines they submit your site to. If you must use an alternative email address, I suggest http://www.mailinator.com for a disposable email address (no sign up necessary... but anyone can obviously view your emails if they know your username... also, mailinator msgs are automatically deleted after so many hours or days or something like that so they're good for something like this, cuz once you reply to the confirmation emails, they won't ever bother you again).

Ok, thanks. But this site doesn't seem to submit to MSN or Yahoo! Is that because those engines require extra information or manual submission?
Also, does the site submit to directories on those sites as well? They don't make it entirely clear on their website. Thanks!

I know that Yahoo! requires manual submission... and MSN probably does too.
I'm also not sure about the directory thing. Sorry.

I just looked at their search engine list again. Most of the search engines I've never even heard about. Since Yahoo!, Google, MSN, and AOL are the most popular, is it really beneficial to submit to so many engines? I would guess that 99.999% of all Internet users use those four engines.

In the long run, no, but what's it going to hurt?

Although I've used their service (and it seemed to be quite true what they claim to do), I don't think using automated submissions is a good option. It may, however, help to get you started. Major search engines also get a lot of their listing from smaller search engines / directories, so there is actually value in submitting your site to select small search engines.

I've asked this a few times in the past but never got a good answer... why would submitting your site to the greatest number of search engines be a bad idea?

I think this website will add URL of your site in databases of search engines. And everybody search follow your keyword will see your web. Please try !

It is a waste of time; submit to a few good ones (manually) and you'll get great results. Auto-submissions aren't that great: they usually don't submit to all the best ones, as many of the best SEs don't accept auto-submissions. So ummm... yah, to sum up... submitting to a large number of SEs doesn't hurt your traffic... but for the amount of time you havta to put in, it doesn't really help your traffic much either when you can get lots of traffic just by submitting to a few good ones.

Okay... I guess I don't mind as much, the more time I take on my website the better it seems in my eyes. Thanks for answering my question though, a little late but... :D
