As I promised to some members, here's an e107 installation tutorial:
(Depending on your skill and Internet connection, this can take from 5 - 15 minutes) :)

1. Download e107 from: http://e107.org/download.php?list.2

2. Depending on how much space you have, you can upload the zip package to your cpanel and extract the zip there (remember to delete the zip file from your space afterwards!) OR you can extract locally and upload the files and directories to your account. Your choice.

* Note: e107 can run in a subdirectory or in the root directory (public_html).

3. From your cpanel or FTP, find the following files and chmod to 777:
- e107_files/backend/news.xml
- e107_files/backend/news.txt
- e107_config.php (in root e107 folder)

4. From your cpanel, go to mysql DBs, and create a DB for e107. Make sure you give it a user.
- To give it a user, scroll down to where it says "Add User", type in a username and password. Click "Add User" and add this new user to e107.

5. From your browser, go to: http://you.hostmatrix.org/where_e107_is/install.php

6. Select your language of installation (should be English... considering that HM only allows English sites! :P) click Continue.

7. You should now encounter a mysql test failure problem. IGNORE THIS and click Continue.

8. On this screen, you need to identify your mysql server name, username, and password.
- Server Name: localhost
- Username: Your CPANEL username!!!
- Password: Your CPANEL password!!!

In the next field, where it asks you for the name of the DB that e107 is going to use, type:
yourusername_theDByoucreatedinstep4
Do NOT attempt to create a new DB from this screen! Make sure the box for this option is NOT checked!

Click Continue

9. Click Continue again on the next screen!

10. Now, type in a username and password that you wish to use for the account that administrates your e107 site.

Click Continue.

11. Click Continue again on the next screen! Click "Go to Website!"

But you're not done yet! Sorry :P

12. Go back to your File Manager or FTP. chmod this file back to 644:
- e107_config.php (in root e107 folder)

13. Delete install.php! If you don't do this... you'll get screwed over eventually! :P

14. You can now start using your e107 site! Congrats!

If you have any more questions, feel free to reply in this thread!

If you'd like to see an example of the final "product", go here:

I'm leaving this link up for 2 weeks. After this, I'm taking it down cuz I'm running low on disk space! :)

There's no need to hijack threads or to spam to get your post count up. There are other threads for discussing different CMS; this thread is exactly what it says - it's a tutorial.

I won't delete your post this time simply because I'd hate for people to think that I'm challenging you because this is my tutorial. But understand that normally if I see a post like this I delete it right away.

If you'd like to comment on the tutorial, feel free to do so. But keep your posts relevant.

They're called Content Management Systems or CMS. They run on PHP and have modules. These modules can be: downloads, links, forum, guestbook, wiki, you get the idea. They are simple to maintain and customize.
Some of the popular ones are:
PHP-Nuke (In CP)
Post-Nuke (In CP)
e107 (Tutorial above)
PHP-My-Website
