Hi all,

what color combination would you use to get maximum results on using google ads?
I have been experimenting everyday to see how they looked. :)
Btw, do any of you have experience in using google ads with different colors ?

TIA :D

It is now red border/headings with white background, I think this is pretty good. Able to draw attention but not too distracting. I saw red/yellow combination yesterday, ah, that's definitely out IMHO, too distracting and annoying. :D
Do you need to change it manually or you have a script to change it?
A few clicks a day, make HM a better place! :)

It is done manually. So that we can track the *improvements*. ( Or the degradation :P )

btw, any idea to make them automated ?

Um, let's see... I assume that the code to display the ads is in the template, and the whole forum use the same template, right? (as I never set up IPB before, dunno how it works). If so, probably it can be done by using a sequential script (or random ar anything like that, e.g. those random/sequential quote display script) to pick a color from an array, or an outside file. Feasible?

Oh well, I cannot write script :P , but I always look for free scripts which are ready to use.

Um, maybe one that can time the change would be better. But I dunno if this is possible...

It seems like you would have the right idea. I would have to think you could just list some hex codes and have the script change them for you. Maybe we need to request this...

Hey creator, the srolling one today is sort of neat, it catches your eye a little more.

Yeah it catches your eye but it sort of moves to fast for you to click on. lol

I think the ads as the way there are is probably the best you are going to get them :D

Very good job with the new placement of the ads. Now will the ones that appear to the right of the forums be taken away too, so that the forum fits your entire screen?

Members what do you think on new ads placement ?

Are they compelling you to click out of curiousity. ( Consider this as a survey, I will be adding the results on my site : www.hackadsense.info )

No, I do not click them out of curiousity. I have excellent free hosting here, so why would I want to visit these paid hosting services?
Anyway, the marquee ads is really cool, able to draw more attention.

What were we talking about? Ah yes... colour scheme... :P Well, the current one looks rather nice; better than the previous color schemes. And I agree with mahangee that the top ads should go horizontal instead of vertical. That way they'd be more noticeable :)

The ones that are now scrolling at the bottom of the screen are, in my opinion, worthless. It's not a good idea to put ads at the bottom of any site, and it's kind of annoying when writing a post... I like the idea of placing them within the top links box, whatever you want to call that. :D

Ads are scrolling at the bottom? I cant see any.

Having the ads to the right scroll with the window is clever. :) Although it makes it's glaring colors even more painful, I suppose for the sake of getting the ad noticed... :) But it's a good plan. :)

Is you gonna have it on the side like this have less vibrant colors as now it is just plain annoying.

It kinda annoys me that the ad on the right is in it's own frame(Or whatever, I know only frames)...Since it scrolls with the window. I think it isn't as effective as you would think it is.

Creator

That is not a frame. Think of it. hehe.

Just CSS.

Like I said, I don't know too much of the design, I'm familiar only to HTML and some PHP.

i meant when it was on the top left corner of the page... i couldnt see the forum properly with the ad standing there vertically

anyway it looks alrite now at the right of the page :D. and the colors (blue & red) combine nice as well :D but i think white & red is more attractive & obvious

Now that the scrolling thing is gone for ever to bin. LOL.

Just that right side fixed ad now. And hope that does not annoy you.

when it was scrolling, gah I was ready to hit my monitor, it was annoying, I say stick with it on the right forever and ever, much better noticeable but not annoying.

I think, looking at this from the view that the ads need to be in a place where people will want to click them, that you have found one that is right for you.

Either way, I will click them. :D

Right side fixed is fine for me - especially with the border colors matching the forum to make it a bit softer on the eyes.

Yes the ad color scheme is made same as the forum color scheme.

Now its better, eh?

mahangee
11-29-2004, 06:25 PM
Yeah its better now that the colour schemes match the add colours, and it still sticks out. I think that you have reached the optimum positioning and style.
